A HISTORY OF FORD’S SIGNATURE TRUCK
The Ford F-150, a derivative of the Ford F-Series, is a light to medium duty model of truck solely manufactured by the Ford automotive company since its origination in 1948. In Ford’s F-Series, the Ford F-150 is considered the lightest model of full-body pickup truck, and is also the most popular model in the F-Series overall for commercial and personal use. In fact, the Ford F-Series has been the best selling vehicle in the United States since 1981, and the best selling pickup in the United States truck since 1977. Believe it or not, the Ford F-Series is the best-selling vehicle in Canada as well.
Ford Motor Company has been manufacturing and marketing successful models of motor vehicles since 1903, when Henry Ford launched the platform in a converted factory with the help of two investors–who would later co-found the Dodge line of vehicles–and a dream to rock the automotive world off of its heels. Ford succeeded. Today, Ford is one of the largest and most successful privately owned motor companies in the world.
APPEARANCE OVER TIME
The Ford F-150 is currently on its thirteenth-generation, undergoing a seemingly infinite number of changes over the years in order to ensure its place as the best-selling light to medium duty pickup truck.
Advancements of the Ford F-150’s physicality have sparked greater interest from the general automotive market as well. The trademark nine-paneled grille of the ninth generation Ford F-150 has been replaced by a newer, more upscale design featuring many metal panels interrupted by three distinct horizontal bars which loudly announce the classic Ford insignia. The thirteenth generation aluminum frame features many inviting curvatures and divots in its trim that allow enhanced aerodynamics and overall aesthetics.
Changes to the overall design and aesthetic of the Ford F-150 over the thirteen generations of its existence include components of its design material, converting the sheet metal used on the bodies to aluminum in order to reduce the curb weight of the vehicle and improve fuel economy and handling. Its 3.5-liter V6 engine is now being offered with a newly introduced 2.7-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 alongside the V5 version.
Overall, Ford intends for new models of the F-150 to reach maximum capacity in terms of fuel economy, safety, and handling, proving themselves extremely successful in the endeavor thus far.
